Over 35 Kharijites Members Killed in Operation in Bay Region
Mogadishu, April 17, 2025: The Somali National Army, in collaboration with the Darwish Forces of the South West State, executed a carefully coordinated operation in the Baay Burjeed area, located about 15 kilometers from Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State.
The operation targeted a faction of the Khawarij al-Shabaab that was preparing to launch an attack. Acting on detailed intelligence, the forces engaged the militants, resulting in the deaths of over 35 members, including a foreign commander leading the group. Additionally, more than 60 individuals sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Following the operation, the forces recovered the bodies of at least 18 Khawarij members, including several high-ranking leaders. Operations are ongoing to locate and recover additional bodies, as some surviving militants managed to flee.
This successful operation dealt a significant blow to the Khawarij, underscoring the determination of the Somali National Army and the South West Darwish Forces, with support from the local community, to eliminate terrorist threats and secure liberated regions.
